“There is beauty to be found in the changing of earth’s seasons, and an inner grace in honoring the cycles of life.” -Jack Kornfield.
It’s smoky here in Idaho, but I had to get outside, feel my legs burn, and my heart race.
I needed to rise above my swirling thoughts and emotions and access a higher view.
Up here, above the mundane, my breath slows, expands.
Like the hawk gracefully circling above it all, I take in the broad landscape of my life—its natural rhythms and cycles, waves and shifts. Here, I’m reminded of my place amongst all living things.
We are constantly shifting and changing. Holding On and Letting Go. Releasing and Growing.
This is the dance of life.
Certainly, I could share my current personal journey here—the things I’m working to let go of and all I strive to hold on to in this season. But this space was never meant to be about me.
Instead, it’s a place to explore the complex universal experience we share on this crazy, brilliant adventure called life. I’m grateful to be here with you…and for all the ways we stay connected.
As we turn our gaze from an outward season of summer toward fall’s gradual journey inward, I offer these timeless lyrics by Stevie Nicks
I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills
‘Til the landslide brought me downOh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin’ ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Well, I’ve been ‘fraid of changin’
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I’m gettin’ older, too
September Theme
If piece this resonates with you, every month, in my weekly-ish newsletter and on the yoga mat, we explore a new theme. This September, we’re diving into “holding on and letting go.”
Whether it’s the coming and going of thoughts, the inhale and exhale of the breath, or the contraction and expansion of the body muscles, yoga illuminates our current state. Then, it offers a playground to create a balance of “holding on” and “letting go” in our mind, body, and being. I’m excited to dig in with you!
To amplify your experience on the yoga mat, or whatever you are diving into this season, every month I create a new Spotify soundscape. This one has been ready for over a week…and I’ve held myself back from launching it early.
I’m straight up in love with “Change” by Big Thief. Its swoopy harmonies are earthy and a little melancholy, like fall…with lyrics that both break your heart and hold your hand. And then there is…”Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I do. If one of the songs speaks to you…I’d love to know. xo
Alright, my friend. Whatever you are working on right now…please know that you are not alone. We are all here together, striving to find balance as we place one foot in front of the other. We can do it together, one shared deep breath at a time.
If you need tools and a place to begin, I’d love for you to join me on the yoga mat. Curious?…check out STUDIO TEN, my online yoga studio. I welcome you…and any questions you might have. Don’t hesitate to reach out.
love,
Tener
