Green Machine Kale Smoothie Recipe
This nutrient-dense smoothie is my “Go To” choice for starting the day. It’s packed with fiber, vitamins, and antioxidant to help you go the distance, and it’s flavorful enough to enjoy it going down.
In the summer, I choose ingredients that happen to be ready to harvest in the garden. Sometimes I even add carrot greens or beet greens to the smoothie to consume as much of the plants and nutrients we are growing. Why not! I encourage you to be adventurous and flexible by trying different ingredients, taking note of combinations that you prefer.
If you are brand new to smoothies and morning greens, hold off on the celery and try spinach and mint first. Once you fall in love with the energy boost green drinks provide, you can move on to kale and cilantro or parsley. The options are endless.
Ingredients
- 2 cups kale or spinach (leaves pulled from stalks)
- Handful of cilantro or parsley or mint (leaves pulled from stalks)
- 1 ½ cups strawberries (frozen if you prefer an icy texture)
- ½ cup orange juice
- ½ cup water
- 1 scoop Spirulina (optional boost of nutrients & antioxidants)
- 1 stalk celery (optional)
- 1 T hemp seeds or chia seeds
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
- Pour into glass
- Sprinkle hemp seeds or chia seeds on top.
- Enjoy!
Notes
- If serving kiddos, pour the smoothie into a colored glass, as drinking green or brown drinks may take some getting used to. Adding a straw will make the drink go down even easier. (preferably a reusable straw)
- I use a Blendtec blender which creates a smooth consistency, but other blenders will work too.
If you give this recipe a try and want to incorporate smoothies into your regular routine, I recommend investing in a high quality blender (Blendtec or Vitamix). My Blendtec traveled to Costa Rica and Mexico with us during our family’s three year adventure abroad…and we were only carrying eight duffle bags of stuff. That is how much I love my Blendtec! (no sponsorship here at all)
So give it a go, and let me know what you think.
And share it with a friend, if you think they might enjoy it.
Cheers to your health!
